Let’s Get Positive!

Let’s get positive!

Yes, recently I was watching a video on positivity.

We’re not talking about Polly Anna type but just having a more positive outlook on life.

So, what can you do to help make life a bit more positive and not just for you, but for those around you?

Did you hear the really cool reports lately of high schoolers leaving positive notes or Valentine’s cards on lockers? I also heard of boy that bought all the girls in his school flowers for Valentine’s day.

  1. What are you listening to?

Are the words uplifting or are they negative?

Do you listen to country music? rap? rock & roll? What are the lyrics?

I personally listen to Spotify, a lot. You can personalize exactly what you are listening to.

2.

What are you reading?

Are you reading something positive? I am talking about first thing in the morning. Are you reading the news? Facebook?

Did you know that YOU can control what you see on Facebook?

Yes, I will do a Facebook live on this at a later date, give me #goals and I’ll get you today’s show notes and let you know when I go live next.

What books are you reading first thing in the morning? Maybe you need to change up what you read in the morning and save the negative, in your face or hard thinking stuff for later in the day.

3.

What are you watching?

Are you watching tv or videos first thing in the morning? What are you watching? Are you watching the news? That can really be depressing and negative, even the local stuff.

Are you watching movies? videos? Are the uplifting or positive?

I am huge fan of NCIS and Criminal Minds, but I certainly don’t want to watch that first thing in the morning. For morning time I like something more positive, such as Hallmark movies or PureFlix. For those that don’t know, PureFlix is a Christian version of Netflix.

For those that love Hallmark movies, you have a couple of options – the Hallmark Channel Everywhere has movies on it and all you need is a cable subscription that has it available. The second option is Hallmark Movies Now app, which is Hallmark’s answer to Netflix.

I use these for alternatives to Netflix so that I can get some positivity in.

4.

Yes, smile!

If you have followed the first 3, you should have a pretty positive outlook on the day. So, share it with someone else and smile at those that you come in contact with.

When you smile at someone, they will smile back, hopefully.

Part of my job at the gym is to greet people as they come in and the first thing I do with everyone is to smile at them and then I say Good morning. My shift is the early morning shift of 6 am to 10 am. Even early in the morning, when you smile at people, most of them will smile back at you.

While you’re at it, given someone a compliment. Make sure both of these are genuine, people will know if you are being fake.

5. Write down the positive from the day.

You’ve made it through the day and it’s been a pretty positive day now. Write down what was positive, what went right. Keep a journal. Then you can always read it the next morning to keep the positivity going.

Wixom Downtown Block Party 2019

This was the fourth year for the Wixom Block Party, which is literally, just one block long.  It is put on by the Wixom Downtown Development Authority. The vendors were all local businesses including C.A.Y.A. Smokehouse Grill (Come As You Are), Friends of the Michigan Airline Trail, Trails End Coffee, and Facial Beauty Dental.

The Friends of the Michigan Airline Trail had a brochure about the trail that included a trail map.  The Michigan Airline Trail will start at Haggerty Rd where the West Bloomfield Trail ends. The other end of it is at Wixom Rd.  There is a proposed downtown Wixom Plaza and a phase two that will connect it to the Huron Valley Trail. This trail is part of the much larger Great Lake to Lake Trail that connects Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.

They also had a very important brochure that explained the H.A.W.K. and R.R.F.B. road-crossing signals and how to use them safely.  The H.A.W.K. signal requires drivers to stop. This signal is normally dark and is only activated when there is someone that wants to cross.  The R.R.F.B. is normally dark also and is only a flashing amber light, which cars do not have to stop for. It only alerts them that there are trail users and to watch for them.  H.A.W.K. means High intensity Activated crossWalK. R.R.F.B. means Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon. Always use caution for either type of crossing. For more information on the trail: http://miairlinetrail.com/

Trails End Coffee is a new coffee shop that will be going in where the Coffee Beanery was previous.  They expect to open in October, 2019. I have been told that they will have a couple of conference tables and a screen to plug in your computer for presentations.  To keep up on their progress, visit https://www.facebook.com/trailsendcoffeewixom/

Gordon Smith, DDS owns Facial Beauty Dental, which is located at the Maple & Wixom Rds.  Go visit them for your next dental appointment and while you are there try out the BEMER for better circulation. https://facialbeautydental.com/

C.A.Y.A. Smokehouse Grill (Come As You Are) is located on Commerce Rd in Wolverine Lake.  In addition to their food truck, they also have a sit down restaurant where you can enjoy their barbecue.  You can see their menu at https://cayagrill.com/

In addition to the great vendors there was live music.  Plus, what I liked was the semi’s parked across the road on each end to make sure people knew the road was closed to traffic.  Parking was easy to find that was fairly close.
