This was the fourth year for the Wixom Block Party, which is literally, just one block long. It is put on by the Wixom Downtown Development Authority. The vendors were all local businesses including C.A.Y.A. Smokehouse Grill (Come As You Are), Friends of the Michigan Airline Trail, Trails End Coffee, and Facial Beauty Dental.
The Friends of the Michigan Airline Trail had a brochure about the trail that included a trail map. The Michigan Airline Trail will start at Haggerty Rd where the West Bloomfield Trail ends. The other end of it is at Wixom Rd. There is a proposed downtown Wixom Plaza and a phase two that will connect it to the Huron Valley Trail. This trail is part of the much larger Great Lake to Lake Trail that connects Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.
They also had a very important brochure that explained the H.A.W.K. and R.R.F.B. road-crossing signals and how to use them safely. The H.A.W.K. signal requires drivers to stop. This signal is normally dark and is only activated when there is someone that wants to cross. The R.R.F.B. is normally dark also and is only a flashing amber light, which cars do not have to stop for. It only alerts them that there are trail users and to watch for them. H.A.W.K. means High intensity Activated crossWalK. R.R.F.B. means Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon. Always use caution for either type of crossing. Trails End Coffee is a new coffee shop that will be going in where the Coffee Beanery was previous. They expect to open in October, 2019. I have been told that they will have a couple of conference tables and a screen to plug in your computer for presentations. In addition to the great vendors there was live music. Plus, what I liked was the semi’s parked across the road on each end to make sure people knew the road was closed to traffic.
